The brief

An electric fleet deserved graphics built on the same thinking

King's College London was taking on six newly leased electric vans for its Estates & Facilities team, who look after the university's London campuses. The vans were supplied by Wessex Fleet, who brought the wrapping to us.

King's wanted the graphics to reflect the same sustainability thinking behind running an electric fleet in the first place. So the material mattered as much as the look.

Five brand-new electric Ford Transit Customs were delivered to our Bognor Regis workshop together, followed shortly after by a larger electric Ford Transit. All six left fully wrapped in the King's livery.

It was also our first project with Wessex Fleet.

How the job ran

From supplied artwork to six finished vans

Material choice, artwork adaptation, in-house printing and installation, all handled under one roof at P1 HQ.

Recommending a complete non-PVC wrap system

Most printed wraps are PVC-based. For an electric fleet with a clear environmental message on the side, that didn't sit right, so we recommended a system that is non-PVC from print film to overlaminate.

We paired 3M Envision Print Wrap Film LX480mC with 3M Envision Gloss Wrap Overlaminate 8548G. Angus has used 3M Envision on a number of projects over the years, so it was a system we were confident recommending and producing in-house.

One livery, adapted across two Ford platforms

The original livery was designed by Day 1 Communications, and King's College London supplied the artwork to us.

A design built for one van doesn't simply scale onto another. We adapted the supplied creative for production across the five Transit Customs, then translated the same visual identity onto the taller, longer body of the full-size electric Transit.

Park them side by side and they read as one fleet, which is the whole point of fleet branding.

Printed in-house on HP Latex at P1 HQ

We prepared the production files ourselves and printed every large-format panel in-house on our HP Latex equipment in Bognor Regis.

Keeping pre-press, print and installation in one building means colour stays consistent from van to van, and nothing waits on an outside print supplier. When six vehicles have to match, that control matters.

Complete full wraps, panel by panel

All six vehicles were fully wrapped, with large printed panels installed across the exterior bodywork. The vans arrived in their factory white and silver and left in the complete King's College London livery.

The full-size Transit is a much taller van, so it went up on staging to reach the roof line and keep the upper panels straight.

On a printed full wrap, the join lines and the way the pattern carries across doors, handles and body lines are what separate a good fleet from an average one. Each panel was aligned by hand to keep the artwork continuous around the van.

Collected by Wessex Fleet, straight into service

Once finished, the vans were professionally collected by Wessex Fleet and transported individually to King's College London, ready to go to work for Estates & Facilities across the university's London campuses.

King's Estates & Facilities has publicly credited Wessex Fleet as vehicle supplier, Day 1 Communications as designers and P1 Wraps as the wrap company on the project.
